Use

Indication criteria are based on the guidelines of the Association for ACI and Tissue Engineering of the German Society of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery:

  • Defect sizes: 3.5 to 14 cm2
  • Defect depth: Outerbridge / ICRS grades III and IV
  • Preserved cartilage shoulder
  • Healthy surrounding cartilage
  • Intact corresponding joint surface (damage to max. Outerbridge grade II is allowed)
  • Undamaged meniscus (partial resection to max. 1/3 of the meniscus is allowed)
  • Physiological leg axis
  • Intact ligament structure
  • Proper patellar tracking
  • Free joint mobility
  • Closed epiphyses
  • Biological age <55 years
  • Osteochondosis dissecans

Relative contraindications

  • Ligament injuries
  • Meniscus injuries
  • Leg axis malalignment >5°
  • Patellar malalignment

Strict contraindications

  • Joint stiffness
  • Arthrofibrosis
  • Inflammatory process
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Infectious diseases (HIV, hepatitis)
  • Adipositas (BMI >30)
